PITTSBURGH -- Defense contractor ITT Corp. said Tuesday it received a NASA contract toward help design, develop and test instruments for measuring carbon dioxide for a NASA mission expected to launch in 2015.
The White Plains, N.Y.-based company said it will work on the instruments designed to measure carbon dioxide from air and space for the Active Sensing of CO2 Emissions over Nights, Days also Season, or ASCENDS, mission.
ITT ( ITT - news - people ) said it be awarded an initial indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract for ASCENDS Mission Support for five years, with a total value of $7 million.
The company said a team of ITT scientists with engineers will be deployed this summer to Virginia, Oklahoma and Wisconsin along with a team of NASA scientists and aircraft operations personnel. The teams will conduct a series of flights to demonstrate the ability to identify sources and sinks of carbon dioxide.
Shares of ITT slid 10 cents to $45.32 during afternoon trading.
